Reach Truck
To be able to keep storage areas orderly and to pile up pallets of goods and supplies, a reach truck can be utilized. The reach truck is available in quite a few models: the stand-up reach, double-deep reach and straddle reach.
The stand-up is the simplest. The truck forks slide under the pallet and move it to the right storage place. The forks slide the pallet into place. This particular type of reach truck is recommended when shelving units are only one pallet in depth.
Best for workplaces where the shelving units are deep enough to accommodate two pallets of goods, the double-deep reach truck, that is like the stand-up, is usually utilized. This version consists of telescopic forks intended to put the pallet at the rear of the shelving unit. This eliminates the need to push the pallet back when one more pallet needs to go into the same shelving section.
Straddle reaches have the additional advantage of being able to not only slide beneath the pallet, but also to grasp the sides. These are recommended for workplaces where shelving units can be accessed in many directions. This model is ideal in conditions where goods would not be damaged if the sides of the pallet are grabbed.
In most warehouses, there are usually more than one type of reach truck. Textile companies and manufacturing facilities use different kinds of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not hard to operate and could maximize available storage space while increasing productivity.
