Forklift Battery Safety
The big industrial sized batteries used to run electric forklifts should be charged frequently and correctly maintained. Safety procedures should be followed when someone connects the battery to the charger. It is essential to check battery fluid levels.
PPE - Personal Protective Equipment
It is vital for employees working with a lift truck battery to wear eye protection. Other PPG include safety glasses, goggles, or a full face shield. The best way to protect clothing and skin from leaked acid or other residue is to put on an approved apron on the body and thick rubber gloves on the hands.
Emergency Eyewash Station
Near the charging place must be an emergency eyewash station. The route to the station should not be obstructed and an employee who is injured should be able to go to the eyewash post from the charging place in 10 seconds without running.
Charger Safety
The battery and charger should be at the same amperage. It should be turned off while the battery is being plugged in.
Open Flames
When in the vicinity of a battery and charging area, open flames are not allowed. Do not allow things such as lighters or matches to be utilized when somebody is inspecting the battery fluid levels.
Ventilation
It is important to keep the battery charging area well ventilated. The recharging method could cause fumes to be released. These fumes are both explosive and poisonous.
