The Liebherr family business was started during the year 1949 by Hans Liebherr. The company first gained fame from its mobile tower crane that was well-known for its affordability and ease of assembly. It was upon this invention that the company's foundation flourished under. These days, Liebherr has grown to become one of the world's leading manufacturers of construction machinery. The business has also gained the reputation of being the accredited provider of user-oriented technically innovative products and services in a range of fields. The business has now become a "Group" working in every continent with more than 35,000 workers and more than 130 companies across the world.
To be able to guarantee a manageable operating size, the Liebherr Group has been divided into different company units. These units have been designed to operate independently. This set up allows the business the ability to stay in tune with global competition and be flexible to market signals. Moreover, having so many individual company units also ensures customer proximity and keeps customer service operating at an optimum level.
The divisional control companies deal with the operative management of the sales companies and the production for the individual product segments. The Liebherr Group currently encompasses ten various product divisions.
Liebherr-International AG is the holding company of the Liebherr Group. They are located in Bulle, Switzerland and are totally owned by the Liebherr family members. Now, the family business is being managed by Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr and her brother Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr in the 2nd generation. Since 2012, some of the active individual divisions have been represented by members of the family in the 3rd generation such as: Sophie Albrecht, Jan Liebherr, Stefanie Wohlfarth and Patricia Ruf. These family members have been working together to be able to help set up the course of the family business in the future. They are staying on top of large-scale industrial projects and residential buildings across the globe.
Hans Liebherr began this quest during 1949, with his first business within the small South-German town of Kirchdorf/Iller. These days, Kirchdorf is among over 20 major manufacturing sites of the Liebherr Group. They employ more than 1400 people in that specific workforce and can average an annual output of about 2800 wheeled excavators. The company has enjoyed immense growth and diversity ever since it first started. The Liebherr Group continues to remain very committed to making and implementing innovative designs. They have earned a positive and successful place in the material handling industry.
