Forklift Classifications
Below are the classes of forklifts that describe the application and fuel option of each type of forklift. Certification is necessary for each and every class of forklift which the operator would be using.
Class 1 - Electric Motor Rider Trucks
These forklifts are available with either cushion tires or pneumatic tires. Pneumatic tires are suggested for outdoor use in dry conditions. The cushion tired models are made for smooth, indoor surfaces. These are electrically powered vehicles that use industrial batteries, that make them suitable in closed environments where the quality of air is a concern. Travel and hoist functions are controlled by transistor motor controllers. These are versatile units normally utilized everywhere from the loading dock to the storage facility.
Class 2 - Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks
This particular forklift is recommended for locations where narrow aisles need to be negotiated. They are efficient at making the most of storage space. Their unique design makes them ideal for small spaces and where speed is required.
Class 3 - Electric Motor Hand or Hand-Rider Trucks
These hand-controlled, battery-powered models are intended for the operator to stand in front of the truck and operate the lift utilizing a steering tiller. The tiller has controls mounted on top and is moved laterally in order to steer the vehicle. The units that have smaller capacity utilize industrial batteries.
