Forklift Parts in More Detail
A forklift is constructed from many components. The main components that make up a forklift truck are the frame of the truck, the engine parts, the overhead guard, the wheels and the tilt cylinders. Also, a lift truck consists of different types of attachments. All the components making up a lift truck are of equal importance because they work together to make the operation of the equipment possible. The following paragraphs describe in detail some of the lift truck parts.
The Overhead Guard - The overhead guard is really the lift truck's metal roof, that sits atop the operator cab. It's job is to protect the operator while they are utilizing the machinery. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck will harm the operator or damage the controls inside the cab. The overhead guard is vital to the frame assembly on various models.
The Mast - Mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle, the mast is the vertical forklift part made of interlocking rails. The mast allows the forks to move up and downwards whilst providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails could either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast may be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Forklift Carriage - The carriage is the component which the forks and other types of attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is attached by chains. To allow the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage could have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack which prevents a load from falling backwards while the carriage is lifted to its full height. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - a variety of attachments can be fixed to the front of the lift truck. The most common type of attachment is forks. What's more, there are L-shaped members, rotators, rollers, roll clamps, pole handlers and and all that. These various attachments are really helpful for transporting various kinds of loads.
